A day of high excitement and drama yesterday on the finish line with Dougie Selman, Corstorphine AAC moving into pole position in the last mile of the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon to take top position on the podium with a time of 2:23:52. This was Dougie's second marathon.
Completing the marathon in the second fastest female time ever in 2:42:40 was Jemima Farley. She was inspired to enter the marathon after seeing her dad run Loch Ness when she was a child.
Great Britain international Mhairi MacLennan of Inverness Harriers returned to her home town to take 46secs off the 16 year-old womenβs course record in the Baxters River Ness 10K with a time of 33:00.
In second place was Virginie Barrand, Metro Aberdeen who also broke the previous record with a superb time of 33:39.
Lachlan Oates of Shettleston Harriers won the menβs title in 30:26 after a three-way battle for supremacy which was only resolved over the final two kilometres.

It's a privilege to run around Loch Ness and Inverness and we ask everyone coming to the event to do everything you can to dispose of your litter responsibly. There are general waste and recycling bins at each water and gel station and there are litter drop zones with recycling bins located 1 mile after each water station along the marathon route.
We aim to recycle every plastic bottle used at the event however these can only be recycled if they are empty, so please remember to #DrinkDrainDrop and that only clean water bottles can be recycled, those thrown into the verges and hedgerows cannot.
The forecast is currently for cool temperatures at the start of the marathon tomorrow morning.
We recommend bringing some warm, throwaway layers to keep you warm and dry until just before the start of the race. All discarded clothing will be collected and donated to the Salvation Army.
Baggage: recommend that items are placed in a waterproof bag or plastic bag within your kit bag to protect them from the weather.
Think layers! Don't forget weather conditions can change very quickly in the Highlands, itβs easier to take a layer off if youβre getting too hot rather than the discomfort of feeling cold.

Kenyan athlete Isaiah Kosgei believes that a burning desire to help others will propel him to another successful performance in the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon on Sunday.
He won the race in 2019, was 3rd in 2018 and 5th in 2017, and used his prize money to support projects in his local area such as improving facilities at his old school and supporting the education of under-privileged children with school materials, uniforms, shoes and books.

βI really love the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon,β she said. βI have run 63 marathons, but Loch Ness is definitely my all-time favourite.

We caught up with Lucy Mackay who will be running her 20th Baxters Loch Ness Marathon in October.
βI really love the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon,β she said. βI have run 63 marathons, but Loch Ness is definitely my all-time favourite.
βIt is such a splendid race! I love the start, high up in the hills near the Suidhe viewpoint. It is so dramatic and spectacular, and I always find it very moving too with the pipe band playing us off at the start.β

βI really enjoy the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon because it has the buzz of a big city marathon but without having to run in urban areas. Give me a scenic route every time β and the views from the route bring back happy childhood memories.
βAfter passing Dores and heading up the hill, I always turn around and enjoy the view down the loch, itβs stunning! In previous years, the marathon has given me cherished memories β from coming back from ill health to reaffirming Iβm alive and kicking, and I hope I can keep going for a long time yet!"
