Stomach-less family set to run 2018 Loch Ness Marathon to raise awareness for No Stomach for Cancer charity
Shaun Linstead from Hastings, East Sussex and Andrew Linstead from Oxford were among the lucky ones from the Linstead family who did not test positive for the CDH1 gene marker but a number of their cousins and uncles did, and as a result opted for a total gastrectomy, with total removal of the stomach.
This September Shaun and Andrew will be travelling up to Loch Ness to join family members (some of whom will be traveling from as far as the U.S) and together they will be running the Loch Ness Marathon to raise awareness and funds for the charity that is dedicated to support research and uniting the caring power of people worldwide affected by stomach cancer.
Shaun Linstead comments, “I’m one of the lucky ones, lucky because I don’t carry the faulty cdh1 gene, lucky because brave members of my family are still here to share this marathon experience with, lucky because I have an opportunity to give something back, to raise money for much needed research to ensure that in the future more and more people can feel as fortune and grateful as I do.”
Camden Linstead who has had his stomach removed and will be travelling from Greenville South Carolina U.S. to run the marathon commented, “This race is an opportunity for me and my family to get together and raise awareness and funds for a charity that we are so passionate about. Sadly I have lost both my father and my aunt to stomach cancer so we will be running the race for them too.”
Shaun and his family will be running the 17th annual Baxters Loch Ness Marathon set to take place on 23rd September. It follows a spectacular point-to-point route alongside the world famous Loch Ness, starting in an atmospheric moorland setting between Fort Augustus and Foyers then continuing through stunning Highland scenery along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness, across the River Ness, finishing in Inverness, capital city of the Highlands.
Guaranteed entry is available now for all of the races and those interested in registering can find out more here.
The Loch Ness Marathon is also home to Scotland’s only Expo dedicated to runners and will offer a great range of running products and offers from leading sports brands all weekend. There will also be free sampling, product trials, demos, prize draws and some marathon sized offers exclusively for Loch Ness runners.
