Jacqueline Sets New World Record In Baxters Loch Ness Marathon
Dorset pensioner Jacqueline Jenkins, left, is claiming a new world record after posting a remarkably impressive time in the Baxters Loch Ness marathon.
The 75 year-old from New Milton in the New Forest, completed the Highland course in 3hr 58min 19secs, which is the fastest time ever recorded by a woman of her age.
It was a remarkable performance from the Littledown Harriers club member, who finished 758th from a field of 2617.
Her husband, David, said:”I believe this is a new world record for a 75 year-old. The previous record was 4:05:39. This is my wife’s fourth marathon this year after Brighton, London and Dorchester, and it’s the 19th she has run in total.
“She ran a British and European record at Dorchester then decided to try for the world record at Loch Ness, which I am delighted to say, she has achieved.”
The previous record for a 75 year-old was set in 2011 by Japanese athlete Yoko Nakano at Hitachinaka.
Nakano has since run even faster, recording 3:53:42, which is a world age 76 women’s record.
Jacqueline, who has two sons and seven grandchildren, didn’t take up running until she was in her 40’s but has gone from strength to strength since then.
She has taken part in the London marathon 10 times, often winning age group prizes, and she has also competed in Paris, Edinburgh, Barcelona and Berlin.
